WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson encouraged students in Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District to participate in the Congressional App Challenge.

Established in 2014 by the House of Representatives, the competition is a widely-supported, bipartisan effort encouraging students to learn how to code through annual competitions hosted by Members of Congress in their home districts.

“The Congressional App Competition is a great way for students to learn coding and display their innovation, creative thinking and problem-solving skills,” Thompson said.

“It is my hope that those who participate will pursue STEM-related careers and become leaders in this growing field.”

The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle and high school students who reside in or attend school in Pennsylvania’s 15th District. Students can work on their own or as part of a team of up to four students.

Students must register at CongressionalAppChallenge.us by Sept. 15, 2019. The deadline to submit an app is Nov. 1, 2019.

Winners will be announced in December during Computer Science Education Week. The winners may be eligible to have their app featured on a display in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.
