The Shreveport Nationals recently captured the Dixie Youth Machine Pitch World Series for 8-year-olds in Ruston by downing Tennessee 10-8 in the championship game.

Competing at the $40 million Ruston Sports Complex, the Shreveport team, playing as Team Louisiana, went 7-1 from Saturday to Tuesday to win the tournament over 11 additional teams from the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Texas and Georgia.

Team members included Drake Parker, Balyn Stewart, Levi Jones, Tripp Caskey, Dax Hamon, Easton Jones, Alex Espinoza, Cole Kenney, Briggs Berlin, Pheonix Pittman, Gunner Smith and Ben Green. The coaching staff included head coach Evan Jones, Spencer Jones, Derrick Hamon and Dustyn Parker.

The Shreveport-based team was 19-3 on the season after winning the District IV championship and finishing as state runners-up to Gonzales. In Ruston, the team was undefeated heading into the title game on Tuesday morning, so Tennessee had to defeat the local team twice. Tennessee won 6-3 in the first game, but Shreveport won 10-8 to capture the title.
