Instagram is full of amazing make-up artists who create unique pieces using their body as a canvas. We are pretty sure that if you go to your Instagram, you’ll find at least one make-up artist which you follow for their master skills. Even though it would be hard to master their superb techniques, you can still do it with a lot of practice. However, this is not the case with Ryan Kelly as her immense talent takes make-up art to a whole new level.

Kelly is a full time make-up artist from Maryland and the owner of a freelance makeup company, Blend Makeup Artistry, and has been practicing and perfecting her lip art skills for the last 4 years. It all started in 2015 when she decided to post a picture of her lips with a viral phenomenon ‘Left Shark’ which was first brought by Katy Perry. At that time, she could hardly predict the popularity which would follow but today she has 77.8k followers who eagerly await her new creations. Do you wonder what’s the secret ingredient for her success? Using her lips as her canvas on which she interprets trends and pop culture references with mind-blowing accuracy.

When she first started painting her lips, she would take her time and play with ideas. Every detail was painted freehand and it would take up to six to seven hours to finish each piece. Nevertheless, everything changed when Kelly became a mother and wanted to spend more time with her daughter. She saw one artist using transfer paper for body painting and decided to try that out. This technique is similar to the one used by tattoo artists and after some time, she mastered it perfectly.

At first, Kelly draws big lips on a piece of paper and puts the desired image on them. She sketches out the scene for her new creation on temporary tattoo paper and then transfers it to her lips. She uses liquid lipstick to color the image and make it a small piece of art.

Her lip art creations vary from our favorite characters from popular TV shows such as Game of Thrones, Friends, American Horror Story, the essential must-watch movies which would be impossible to forget: A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, Austin Powers, Mrs. Doubtfire, to famous pop culture icons such as Andy Warhol, Kim Kardashian, and Rihanna.
